NAFDAC alerts consumers to counterfeit cosmetic products, seals illegal factory in Lagos

Sequel to the agency’s recent discovery of the illegal factory, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off an illegal factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, in Lagos State.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the health sector regulatory agency, which disclosed this development in a post via its verified X account Tuesday, September 17, 2024, said its enforcement operatives shut the factory after they raided the location and discovered various unregistered chemicals and packaging materials, along with expired products that were being revalidated for sale.

NAFDAC disclosed that during the operation, the enforcement team confiscated over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products at the factory.

It noted the seized items included mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners, were confiscated and moved to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.

The agency also stated: “The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around N50 million.

“NAFDAC urges the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.â€
