The Nigerian Defence Chief commended the special independent investigative panel on human rights violations in the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East region of the West African country, for exonerating the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) from indictments regarding allegations of forceful abortions and other infractions in the sub-region.

Musa, in the statement, also emphasised that the report of the special panel specifically, stressed that the allegations of systematic abortions, torture, rape and extra-judicial killings levelled against the Nigerian Military were “false”.

The Nigerian CDS, therefore, commended the seven-man panel, led by Retired Justice Abdu Aboki for painstakingly, carrying out a thorough job since its inauguration in March 2023 by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.

The Defence Chief as well reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to the defence of human rights, and resolved to ensure that peace reigns in the country.

Gen. Musa stated no amount of fabricated accusations would distract the country’s Armed Forces from exercising its constitutional mandate of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
