Toyota recalls over 8,000 Corolla, Corolla Hybrid vehicles for steering shaft defect

*Toyota annouces the steering shaft assembly in the affected vehicle models is prone to fracture that can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash

Toyota is recalling more than 8,000 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles with a steering defect.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ learnt the steering shaft assembly in the affected vehicles is prone to fracture on affected models.

The leading automobile manufacturer said due to cracks developed during the manufacturing process, the steering intermediate shaft assembly might fracture and possibly result in the shaft detaching from the steering column.

A steering shaft that detaches can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash, agency report said.

In connection with what to do in addressing the factory-related issue Toyota announced the dealers would replace the intermediate steering shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by January 20, 2025.
