Cybercrime: EFCC raids alleged ‘Yahoo Academy’, arrests 25 Internet fraud suspects with valuables in Benin

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 25 suspected Internet fraudsters in an alleged cybercrime training centre, in Benin City, Edo State capital.

The EFCC, in a statement Friday, January 17, 2025, disclosed the purported cyberfraudsters were arrested Thursday, January 16.

The statement also indicated that the Commission’s operatives arrested the suspects at their hideout, following credible intelligence.

According the anti-graft Commission, it was noted that the apartment was being used as a ‘Yahoo Academy’ or training school for Internet-related frauds and other fraudulent activities in the area.

The Commission recovered various items from the alleged cybercriminals, including six exotic cars, laptops and phones.

The EFCC stated: “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.â€
