Against the backdrop of the recent vandalisation of some Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has appealed to communities hosting such infrastructure to take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinities.

The TCN stated this in respect of its vandalised Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji – Makurdi 330kV transmission Line at the weekend.

Speaking on the development, Ndidi Mbah, Spokesperson of TCN, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, stated the the affect power facility was vandalised at Watuolo Village, Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

Mbah explained the community members noticed suspicious activity around the tower at about 3:00 a.m., and promptly apprehended one of the vandals while the others escaped.

The vandal was handed over to the Police, stated the TCN Spokesperson.

The company commended the people of Watuolo Village for their swift action and vigilance over the power transmission infrastructure in their community.

The TCN also urged other communities hosting critical national infrastructure to emulate this example, and take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.

The statement noted: “As we continue to work with security operatives and host communities against vandalism, we continue to appeal for more vigilance by residents in the communities, who we believe are very critical in this fight.”
