Suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State Tuesday, June 3, 2025, visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his Ikoyi private residence, in Lagos.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ gathered President Tinubu, during Fubara’s visit held a closed-door meeting, a development reportedly marking the first publicly known meeting between the two since Fubara’s suspension from office March this year

The ‘crucial’ meeting between Tinubu and the suspended Rivers Governor might not be unconnected with resolving the political crisis in the South-South state ahead of the expiration of the six-month emergency rule September 2025.

Though photographs released by the State House Media Unit indicated the Nigerian President and Fubara smiling for the cameras, details of their discussion were yet to be disclosed.

It it recalled President Tinubu March 18 this year, declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State suspending Fubara and his Deputy Mrs. Ngozi Odu, along with all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Tinubu’s move followed escalating political and economic tensions in the oil-rich state at the time.

However, days into the emergency rule in Rivers, there were stiff opposition and criticisms from Fubara’s main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, civil society groups, opionin leaders, and other prominent Nigerians.

They have argued that the President’s “unilateral action” was unconstitutional, as it equally undermines democratic governance.
