Underscoring that it is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians in and out of government to work towards addressing the challenges, Ahmad Lawan, President of the Senate, and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly (NASS), have acknowledged the fact that Nigeria is currently under threat from the increasing insecurity of lives and property in the country.

绿帽献妻 learnt Hon. Gbajabiamila, at a national security summit Wednesday, May 26 in Abuja, FCT, urged joint efforts by government and all Nigerians towards overcoming the rising insecurity in Nigeria.

In order achieve this critical objective, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Green Chamber of the NASS, stated that ethno-religious differences and other divisive factors among Nigerians must be put aside for the urgency of safeguarding the nation, according to report.

President Muhammadu Buhari at the forum earlier applauded the House of Representatives for organising a national summit, aimed at brainstorming over the current security challenges facing the nation, describing the move as timely.

Represented at the event, by Mr. Boss Mustafa, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), President Buhari said it remained the 鈥渞esponsibility of all Nigerians in and out of government鈥� to work towards addressing the challenges.

He urged the participants in the summit to set aside ethnic, political, religious, and other considerations in the national interest to speak frankly on the possible solutions.

The President as well urged the Federal Legislature to take the opportunity provided by the summit to formulate and pass more laws to enhance the operations of national security agencies in Nigeria.

According to Buhari, at a time when insecurity threatened the authority of the state and foundations of Nigeria鈥檚 nationhood, and when the activities of insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals 鈥渋mpede our efforts at progress and prosperity, we must confront the realisation that our previous and current approaches to addressing the challenges of insecurity have not yielded the desired results.

He further noted: 鈥淚t may well be that it is in the crucible of this battle for survival that we become a nation fully formed.

鈥淭herefore, we must rise to the moment with passion and perspective. We hope for peace and desire its benefits.

鈥淵et, neither fervent hope nor heartfelt desire will suffice because the ends of peace require action.鈥�

Sen. Lawan, in his goodwill message, urged the Legislative and Executive arms of government to work together more closely by ensuring that recommendations from sessions at the summit were implemented.

According to the Senate President, armed forces need improved funding for optimal productivity.
