In activating the Operating System (OS) featuring a myriad of changes with new features after months of hints about the expected release, Microsoft Corporation has officially announced that its new Windows 11 OS is launched.

ñ gathered Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft, who disclosed this development Thursday, June 24, 2021, said: “Today marks a major milestone in the history of Windows…. It’s the beginning of a new generation.”

The new OS features design changes, such as rounded corners, new desktop wallpaper, and a centered Start menu featuring applications and files recently used across a variety of devices.

There’s also a separate search interface and Windows Widgets, which is said to be a repackaging of the widgets previously introduced in Windows 10.

The Widgets feature is Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered and offers personalised content, including news and weather features.

According to the global technology and software giant, the new Operating System will have the Teams app incorporated right into the taskbar, which it was learnt allows users to call friends, family, or co-workers.

Windows 11 will also have “snap layouts” that allow users to quickly snap apps into the different modes that Windows 11 supports, the company said.

In terms of modernisation, in a live-streamed presentation, Panos Panay, the company’s Chief Product Officer (CPO), described Windows 11 as “the Windows that brings you closer to the things you love.”

Panay noted that it would deliver more performance in browsing the web in Microsoft’s Edge browser, which will enable longer battery life.

Aside from these fresh features, updates will be 40 percent smaller and less frequent. There will be one update per year instead of two, Panay said.

Further still, the Windows icon itself has gotten a cleaner new look, as it now a simple square with four equal-sized panes.

In all, the company stated that the new Operating System features more modern aesthetics.

“Windows 11-ready” PCs will be available later this year. Until then, computers must meet new hardware requirements in order to run Windows 11.

“Windows 11 Home edition requires an Internet connection and a Microsoft Account to complete device setup on first use,” Microsoft said.

Therefore, as far as Microsoft is concerned, Windows 11 is simply another feature upgrade for Windows 10, according to ComputerWorld.

“Microsoft 365 licences that include Windows 10 licenses will permit you to run Windows 11 on supported devices,” the source quoted Microsoft as saying on its support site.
