Describing him as a role model to several personnel of the country鈥檚 telecoms regulator, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice-Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and other staff of the Commission have extolled Jerry Ugwu, a Deputy Director, who recently retired for his dedication, hard work and outstanding work ethics demonstrated while in the service of the Commission.

The NCC stated that Ugwu as a seasoned lawyer, who has been described by all as a role model to numerous staff members of the Commission, exited the agency at the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Director of Public Affairs at NCC, in a statement said the former Deputy Director joined the telecoms regulatory agency in 2010 as Chief of Staff in the office of the Executive Vice-Chairman.

The statement noted Ugwu rose from the ranks to hold his last position as the Head, Legal Registry Unit, in the Legal and Regulatory Services (LRS) Department of the Commission.

The NCC EVC, while speaking at the recent valedictory session organised by the Commission in Ugwu鈥檚 honour, in Abuja, FCT, described the celebrant as a dedicated and exemplary staff with excellent work ethics.

Represented on the occasion by Mr. Adeleke Adewolu, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management of the Commission, Danbatta related that Ugwu made significant impact in various capacities where he served in the NCC.

His dedication to work and gentleman posture are well-acknowledged by Management, said the EVC.

Danbatta stated: 鈥淛erry Ugwu is a pleasant personality, reserved but resourceful.

鈥淗e is a gentleman, who is contented and has served the Commission creditably in the past one decade. We, therefore, wish you happy retirement.鈥�

The statement said earlier in her opening address, Josephine Amuwa, Director of LRS at NCC, also said Ugwu had 鈥渟erved meritoriously in various capacities over the years and contributed his quota to the growth of the telecoms sector鈥� in the country.

Amuwa recalled Jerry鈥檚 great personal attributes, such as his analytical skills, deep understanding of the Law, devotion and dedication to work will stand him in good stead in his future endeavours.

According to her, all the staff of Legal and Regulatory Services Department of the NCC will surely miss him, particularly his calm disposition to work.

She said: 鈥淭his is a day of celebration not only for all you have accomplished but also for all the possibilities that will be unfolding before you. Congratulations!

鈥淲e pray that the Almighty God give you the wisdom and strength needed to fulfill all your personal aspirations, post-retirement.

鈥淓njoy the new chapter of your life and enjoy being your own boss; say 鈥楪oodbye!鈥� to tension and 鈥楬ello!鈥� to your pension.鈥�

In his remarks, Ugwu thanked the Commission for the opportunity given to him to serve Nigeria, and also appreciated his colleagues for orgainsing a befitting retirement.

The former Deputy Director of the Commission said: 鈥淚 am humbled to hear all these good comments that have been said about me; and I am grateful to all of you for organising this valedictory party in my honour.鈥�

The valediction was attended both physically and virtually by Senior Management Staff, including Ubale Maska, NCC鈥檚 Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and other members of staff of the Commission, as well as family members.

The statement added that they took turns to shower encomiums on Ugwu, the celebrant, and wished him well in retirement.
