As part of an update to its Play Store policies, Google will be banning so-called 鈥渟ugar dating鈥� apps. Beginning September 1, the company will no longer allow apps that focus on “compensated sexual relationships (i.e., sugar dating)鈥� to exist on its Android app marketplace.

绿帽献妻 learnt 鈥淪ugar dating鈥� is typically when a wealthy older individual agrees to provide financial assistance to someone, usually a young female, in exchange for a sexual relationship.

Apps focused on facilitating these connections are popular on the Internet, with many of them garnering over a million installations, agency report said.

Some have names that strongly suggest their intent such as 鈥淪ugar Daddy,鈥� whereas others have more vague names, such as Elite Millionaire Singles, Seeking Arrangement, and Spoil.

As some global tech giants are receiving backlash from governmental authorities in recent times, Google is also cracking down on these types of apps under an update to its sexual content policy.

Starting in September, Android users will no longer be able to download sugar dating apps from the Google Play store.

The tech firm鈥檚 updated policy, according to Android Police, states that it鈥檚 鈥渦pdating the Inappropriate Content policy to institute new restrictions on sexual content, specifically prohibiting compensated sexual relationships (i.e. sugar dating).鈥�

The tech giant鈥檚 Play Store policies already prohibit apps that promote 鈥渟ervices that may be interpreted as providing sexual acts in exchange for compensation.鈥�

The policy change announced Wednesday, July 28, 2021, expands the definition to clearly state that it will not allow apps that centre on the concept of a compensated sexual relationship 鈥渨here one participant is expected or implied to provide money, gifts or financial support to another participant (鈥榮ugar dating鈥�).鈥�
