The Lagos State Government (LASG) has notified motorists in the commercial metropolis of the diversion of traffic on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway for needed repairs on the Airport Flyover Bridge.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the State Government said the Federal Ministry of Works would executive the repairs from August 9 to October 3, 2021.

Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, Honourable Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, in a statement, said that the Oshodi-bound lane on the expressway would be barred from vehicular movement from midnight August 9, 2021, and reopened partially in the midnight of August 14, 2021, for the first phase of rehabilitation work.

It is recalled that in inferno from the explosion of a pretol-loaded tanker January this year had damaged the structure of the Airport Flyover Bridge at Toyota on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

The Commissioner stated that the second phase of the repairs would commence immediately for duration of seven weeks to hasten the rehabilitation works.

The statement also noted that motorists would be diverted from the main carriageway to the service lane of the Oshodi-bound lane for the first five days during the period.

Dr. Oladeinde disclosed that traffic heading towards the Oshodi-bound lane would be diverted to the service lane at Ladipo, while those heading for Mile 2 would be diverted to the Airport Road.

The two lanes on both Oshodi and Mile 2 roads will equally be opened to vehicular movement to ease traffic in the axis of the cosmopolitan city, said the statement.

He also assured motorists and Lagos residents that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will manage the flow of traffic and minimise inconveniences that will arise from the rehabilitation work on the Airport bridge.

According to him, alternative roads have been identified and fixed in preparation for the traffic diversions.

Oladeinde, therefore, appealed to “motorists to drive with caution and forbearance as this will help ameliorate the traffic gridlock that may arise during the rehabilitation period.

He affirmed that “the safety of Lagosians is a top priority of the Lagos State Government.â€
