In an effort at safeguarding the health of Nigerian consumers, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has started campaigns against substandard foods, drugs and cosmetics in Kebbi State.

绿帽献妻 gathered Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the regulatory agency, disclosed this in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital, that NAFDAC is set to tackle the menace of unwholesome foods, falsified medical products, harmful cosmetics, poor water and other substandard regulated products in circulation in the country.

Prof. Adeyeye, represented at the event by the Zonal Director of the agency, stated this while delivering her address at the commencement of the campaign against unwholesome foods, drugs and cosmetics in the North-East state, report noted.

According to her, the agency鈥檚 move against such dangerous foods and products is to protect the health of Nigerians.

Adeyeye said: 鈥淚t is common knowledge that Nigeria has a preponderant share of the global problems of falsified medical products and unwholesome foods.鈥�

She stated that the advent of COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated the problems with the challenge posed by substandard and falsified Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

The NAFDAC Director-General stated: 鈥淭he campaign will contribute to the Federal Government鈥檚 concerted efforts to inform, sensitize, educate and alerted the public about inherent dangers of intake and use of those spurious regulated products.鈥�

The campaign, she further noted, will address public health challenges such as, danger of buying medicines from hawkers, patients, abuse of codeine, dangerous practice of use potassium bromate to bake bread, use of azo-dyes in palm oil, dangers of using sniper to preserve foods and dangers of using pesticides, insecticides.

On the need support from other stakeholders, Adeyeye reportedly said the mass media, vibrant youth organisations and civil societies in the pilot states will be in the forefront of the campaign across the country.

鈥淭he target audiences are market women and men, road transport workers and employees,鈥� she added.
