Telecoms regulator urges Nigerians to observe COVID-19 protocols amid rising cases

*The Nigerian Communications Commission advises telecoms subscribers to observe the Coronavirus guidelines and protect themselves during the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment process in various centres across the country

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the West African country, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has asked Nigerians to adhere strictly to the stipulated COVID-19 guidelines.

NCC is the independent national regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in the country.

The Commission, in a consumer education and protection cum public sensitisation material containing a message posted on its Facebook page on the necessity to keep safe at NIN enrolment centres, advised telecoms subscribers to observe the Coronavirus guidelines.

This is especially important during the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment process in various centres across Nigeria, so as to curtail the spread of the damaging virus.

The telecoms regulator says: 鈥淭he Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) wishes to call on telephone line Subscribers to adhere strictly to COVID-19 Safety Guidelines in the National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment process in order to stop the spread of the virus.

The Commission further noted that the Commission 鈥渋s urging all subscribers undergoing the NIN enrolment to keep safe while doing so by wearing a facemask and maintaining social distance.鈥�

NCC thus reminds Nigerian consumers to always maintain physical distancing, wear nose masks, frequently wash their hands, and apply hand sanitisers to protect themselves, their loved ones, and others in the country.

Increasing cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria

Meanwhile, report indicates that cases of COVID-19 keep increasing in the country, according to daily update from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

绿帽献妻 reports the health regulatory agency said as of Saturday, August 28, 2021, morning, the country recorded 618 new confirmed cases and 10 deaths August 27.

The agency noted that thus far, 鈥�190,333 cases have been confirmed, 169,815 cases have been discharged and 2,308 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.鈥�

NCDC stated the 618 new cases were reported from 15 states as follows: Lagos (312), Akwa Ibom (89), Edo (71), Rivers (47), Ekiti (20), Plateau (20), Delta (15), Kwara (13), FCT (11), Osun (8), Oyo (4), Ogun (3), Benue (3), Gombe (1) and Kaduna (1)

A multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities, the agency said.

It also emphasises the mandatory use of non-medical nose masks in public spaces, with 鈥楴o mask, no entry. No mask, no service鈥� campaign in the country.
