Following recent violent attacks in Jos North, Bassa, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi that have plunged the hitherto renowned peaceful region into a state of high tension, Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State in a broadcast Monday, August 30, 2021, said the 24-hour curfew in Jos North is now to be enforced from 6p.m. to 6a.m. until further notice.

绿帽献妻 reports H.E. Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Lalong in his statewide announcement said: 鈥淭he curfew in Jos South and Bassa is to also be further relaxed.

鈥淎s from Monday, 30th August 2021, the curfew shall be enforced between 10p.m. to 6a.m. until further notice.鈥�

The Plateau State Governor, however, stated that the ban on tricycles (Keke Napep) and hawkers remains in place within Jos/Bukuru metropolis.

He also stated that the Plateau Economic and Investment Summit earlier scheduled for September 1 and 2 this year has been postponed.

鈥淎 new date will be announced and communicated to all our invitees. We apologise for any inconveniences this postponement might cause,鈥� said Lalong.

Recall that fresh attacks in Jos North, Bassa, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi have plunged Plateau into a state of high tension recently.

About 36 people were killed in the past week in Yelwa Zangam village, Zangam District in Jos North Local Government Area, according to report.

Amid the ensuing growing commotion in the state, several state governments in Nigeria, including Lagos State, have transported their indigenes from Jos metropolis and academic activities on the University of Jos (UNIJOS) campus have been shut down.

Attacks on Plateau 鈥榩urely criminal activities鈥�

Though some Nigerians and observers have attributed the latest killings in Plateau to ethnic and religious reasons, the state government nonetheless, has maintained that such violent attacks are 鈥減urely criminal activities that must be treated as such.鈥�

Governor Lalong in his broadcast Monday also said: 鈥淓ven though they are quickly given ethno-religious connotations, there is no justification for the killing of anyone human being.

鈥淲e are a society that is guided by rules which do not permit anyone to take the laws into his or her hands no matter the grievances.鈥�

In respect of moves to resolve the security crisis, the governor disclosed that he has engaged with high level stakeholders, including traditional, political, community and religious leaders.

He explained: 鈥淚t is important to state that we have had several engagements with them in the past and made efforts to ensure that peace prevails in the area.

鈥淏etween January and July this year, the Plateau Peace Building Agency has conducted over 34 mediation engagements at community levels in Miango, Kwall, Dusten Kura, and Gyelobari Districts of Bassa LGA.鈥�

Lalong also stated: 鈥淚n response to the attacks, I also held meetings with the Plateau Inter-Religious Council and directed them, along with the Peace Building Agency to swing into action by carrying out more consultations and engagements to defuse tensions, calm nerves and dig deep into the immediate and remote causes of these conflicts with a view to bringing the ugly situation to an end.鈥� Read full text of broadcast here.
