*The Sokoto State Government of Nigeria discloses the new dairy centre has a production capacity of 5,000 litres of both fresh milk and yoghurt for consumers daily

In order to further enhance the component of cattle breeding and boost nutritional benefits for consumers, especially in the North-West state of the country, the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has established a dairy centre in the state.

绿帽献妻 gathered Prof. Abdulkadir Junaidu, Honourable Commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries Development, in Sokoto State, disclosed this development.

The Commissioner stated the new dairy centre has a production capacity of 5,000 litres of both fresh milk and yoghurt daily.

Prof. Junaidu noted that that project is designed to buy off milk from farmers in the state in an effort at improving their economic well-being while minimising wastage often encountered by dairy farmers across the Northern state of the country.

He said: 鈥淭he diary plants units are part of our cattle breeding programme. The essence of this dairy unit is to ensure that we collect milk from our cluster farmers and our pastoralists who at times complain of low patronage.

鈥淵ou can all see now that we have started producing caliphate yoghurt for the first time in the state which we will soon commercialise.鈥�

He further stressed: 鈥淲e have the testing product here and are very satisfied with the level of production and ready to go into partnership with the company that engages in yoghurt and other dairy production.

鈥淭his I believe will help us to have sustainability that even after this administration, I am hopeful that this company will be maintained and the programme will be sustained鈥�

According to him, the company will help to add value to the activities of cattle rearing in the state.

Junaidu stated: 鈥淏y the time we are done with the artificial insemination across all the 23 local governments in the state, our farmers will add value to their cattle.

In a related development, the state has set up artificial insemination and embryo transfer component of Sokoto cattle breeding at cattle reproduction centre, Rujin Sambo, with the metropolis.

AIG Dr. Aishatu Abubakar Baju, National President of Veterinary Council of Nigeria, in his comments when declaring open the project, commended Sokoto State for the projects.

The National President of the Council emphasised such projects are some of the reasons why the incidence of insurgents, banditry, kidnapping, and other insecurity issues is relatively low side in the state.

If other states can emulate such a developmental plan in cattle breeding, she noted, insecurity will surely reduce to the barest minimum in the state.

According to AIG Dr. Baju, only Lagos State consumes about an N81billion worth of cattle on a monthly basis, a situation she described as a big market for cattle business in the country.

She also assured the stakeholders of making case for the State Council for the establishment of a centre for Veterinarian College in Sokoto State.
