Banditry: Kaduna enforces ban on motorcycles, tricycles restriction amid telecoms shutdown

Following the recent shutdown of telecommunications services over the reported insecurity of lives and property in the state, the Kaduna State Government Saturday, October 2, 2021, began the full enforcement of the ban on motorcycles and restrictions of tricycles from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the state.

绿帽献妻 had reported that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State in a recent announcement on a local broadcast station had notified residents of the state of the current development.

The state government has also banned the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes, or riding to work, and also placed restrictions on tricycles, besides the shutdown of telecommunications services in conjunction with the relevant authorities in order to curb the rising spate of lawlessness in the state.

According to the state government, tricycles will only be allowed to operate from 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.

The government had said the order which takes effect from September 30, 2021, was to curtail the activities of the rampaging bandits in the Northern state of Nigeria.

The enforcement on the ban of motorcycles for transportation or commercial purposes applies to everyone, including law enforcement agents who ride their motorcycles to their various places of work.

In terms of the immediate effect of the ban on the residents of the state, several workers, businessmen and women, including law enforcement agents, such as the Police, NSCDC, immigration, and Nigeria Correctional Service have no option but to wait for commercial buses and tricycles which were not many on the roads, according to report.

Report also indicates that many passengers, including workers were seeing stranded as the number of buses, tricycles plying the road were insufficient for waiting passengers.

With the enforcement of the ban, many whose relatives take ill in the night and need require to be taken to the hospital will have to wait till the following morning.

For instance, in Kakuri, Sabo-Tasha, Angwar Sule, and neighbouring villages, the team of security personnel manned various motorcycle routes, arresting anyone who refused to comply with the government鈥檚 directives.

Mr. Joseph Elaigwu, a motorcyclist, who rides within Angwar and whose motorcycle was taken away Saturday, October 2, revealed that he has no work or any means of feeding his five children, Daily Post report stated.

Elaigwu quipped: 鈥淚 am frustrated and confused. What next for me now? I have nothing to take care of my children, except the Okada work I do. Now, where will I go from here?鈥�
