*Nigeria鈥檚 Federal Road Safety Corps says speed limit devices help to check drivers鈥� speed, enhance fuel economy, help drivers to manoeuvre in case of accidents, and aid other safety devices to function optimally

*Corps warns motorists it will impound vehicles without number plates and those with illegal registration in Ondo State

In a move to deliberately reduce road accidents occurring on the Nigerian highways due to speeding, as the agency begins the 鈥榚mber months鈥� safety campaigns, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has said it will soon begin enforcement of installation of speed limit devices on articulated vehicles plying the Ore-Benin Expressway.

Mr. Sikiru Alonge, Ore Unit Commander of FRSC, Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Ore area of the state, that the move was aimed at minimising road accidents that occur on the highways as a result of speeding, agency report said.

A speed limiting device

绿帽献妻 reports speed limiter is a device installed in vehicles so as to check speed and prevent drivers from going beyond a stipulated speed limit while on the road.

The good road on the Ore-Benin Expressway was making motorists speed on that axis, which if not checked might result in road crashes, loss of lives and property, the FRSC Unit Commander stated.

Alonge further noted: 鈥淔or us to check the speeding of motorists on this axis, we will soon begin the enforcement of speed limit devices, especially on articulated vehicles.

鈥淭he speed limit devices, aside from checking speed, also add to fuel economy, help drivers to manoeuvre in the event of accidents, and generally aid other safety devices to function optimally in the time of need.鈥�

He advised drivers to install the speed limit devices on their vehicles in order to ensure compliance with all traffic rules and regulations on the highway in the country.

Corps to clamp down, seize vehicles without number plates in Ondo

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Command, Saturday, October 16, 2021, in Akure, Ondo State capital, warned motorists it would impound vehicles without number plates and those with illegal registration.

Mr. Ezekiel SonAllah, FRSC Sector Commander in Ondo State, noted that the command would ensure that only duly registered vehicles run on roads in the state, report said.

According to him, the Command had concluded plans for comprehensive patrol of roads and highways in the state to ensure compliance.

SonAllah stated: 鈥淲e have deployed our special patrol teams on the highways and we will continue until we get into a situation where we no longer see unregistered vehicles plying the highways.鈥�

He as well lamented the illegal use of the state government鈥檚 number plates, and advised those doing so to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

鈥淲e have impounded about three vehicles in the last two months for using state government鈥檚 number plates illegally,鈥欌�� he disclosed.

The Sector Commander also directed car dealers to ensure that any unregistered vehicle leaving their car marts displays dealer鈥檚 numbers, or such would be seized.
