Government set to concession 12 hydropower plants in Nigeria: BPE Chief

*The Federal Government has concluded plans to concession 12 hydropower plants in five states and the Federal Capital Territory for efficient and effective service delivery to electricity consumers in the country

In a move towards ensuring effective service delivery to the Nigerian electricity consumers, the Federal Government has concluded plans to concession 12 hydropower plants in five states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for effective service delivery in the country.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Mr. Alex Okoh, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), disclosed this development in a statement issued Saturday, October 30, 2021, through Amina Othman, Head of Public Communications, at the Bureau.

Power plant

Okoh stated that the hydropower plants would be listed for concession so as to unlock their values and full potential.

The power plants have a combined generation capacity of 1,200 megawatts, said the BPE Director-General.

According to him, the hydropower plants billed for concession include the Greenfields and four Brownfields located in Adamawa, Benue, Kogi, Ogun, Taraba, and the FCT.

He as well solicited the development of alternative sources of energy, including Sun, wind, hydro, and biomass to further enhance Nigeria’s power generation capacity.
