NLC to Government: Nigerians’ sufferings enough over perennial increases in electricity, fuel prices

*The Nigeria Labour Congress declares there is a limit to the Federal Government’s imposition of hardships and sufferings on the Nigerian consumers

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed concern over what it described as the perennial increases in fuel prices by successive administrations in the West African country.

ñ reports Comrade Ayuba Wabba, President of NLC, in his New Year message Saturday, January 1, 2022, said that the Labour movement was concerned about “the deceit and duplicity associated with the politics of petrol price increase” by successive Nigerian governments.

The Labour, union while warning the Federal Government, stated that there is is a limit to how much more sufferings Nigerian consumers can endure in the economy.

The NLC urged government to stop all the union has called authorities’ anti-people policies.

The perennial increases in the price of petrol amount to the government’s transferring its incompetence to the Nigerian people, noted NLC.

It also vowed to mobilise Nigerians to resist any further attempt to inflict more pains on the citizens.

The Nigeria Labour Congress also warned some state governors against starving pensioners and workers of their entitlements and the New Minimum Wage.

Comrade Wabba said: “Our argument has been that there is a limit to the imposition of hardship and suffering on the fragile shoulders of the Nigerian people.”

The NLC President also stated: “It is gratifying that amidst the deteriorating conditions of living, Organised Labour was able to rise up to ensure that the masses of our people were not completely run over by market forces enabled by the anti-people policies of the government and at the whims of shylock capitalists.”
