Why Nigeria is keen on reducing government agencies, parastatals: BPSR

In regard to the much-talked about reforms in the Civil Service in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to effect recommendations by the committees on the Oronsaye Whitepaper.

Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), stated this at the weekend at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum.

Arabi, a committee member, confirmed that the Federal Government was keen on implementing the reports of the committees.

The Director-General of BPSR also said that the most difficult thing to drive is change because there are “lots of implications”.

He further stated: “Government needs to be careful, especially looking at our size, our diversity, and the issues we are facing as a nation.

“The report was submitted to the Federal Government on Tuesday (February 8, 2022) and will be transmitted to the President for his consideration and directives.”

ConsumerConsumer reports the Oronsaye Whitepaper has proposed the reduction and restructuring of hundreds of Federal Government’s agencies, departments and parastatals.

The government recently created two sub-committees on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions in the country.
