Blackouts: Abuja Electric decries vandalisation of critical infrastructure in FCT

*The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company informs consumers as the utility firm is working to optimally deploy the low power being allocated to it recent days, but Ìýcompany is also experiencing cases of serious vandalism around the power network in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory

Against the backdrop of the need to protect the country’s Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) from sabotage, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has cried out that the power utility firm is experiencing casesÌý of serious vandalism around its infrastructure, causing power outages in some areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Mr. Donald Etim, Chief Marketing Officer of AEDC, who disclosed this development in a statement issued Friday, March 18, 2022, in Abuja, FCT, noted: “While we are working to optimally deploy the low power AEDC is being allocated daily in recent days, please be informed that we are also experiencing cases of serious vandalism around our network.

“Specifically, in our Wuye Substation and Utako Substation in FCT, causing outages in those areas and environs.â€

Etim also said: “For Wuye 2 Injection Substation, areas affected are NNPC Quarters, Cosgrove Estate, Reuben Okoye Street, Pius Ayim Street, Tambuwal Street, Shafa Filling station.

“Nation Wide Estate, DSS Quarters, Idris Gidado and its environs.â€

The AEDC chief further stated tha for B6 Injection Substation, areas affected are Anthony Enahoro Street, National Assembly Commission, Ministry of Environment Annex, Aneio Hotel, KANEM Suites, Peace Park.

Others are the Inuwa Wada Close, S.O. Williams Close, JMG Generators, Custom Quarters, Glory Estate, Dove Estate, Utako Market, IBM Haruna Street, TOSÌý Benson Street, Alibro Plaza, Chisco Transport, and environs, said he.

Meanwhile, Etim said that AEDC’s engineers had moved to those sites working to restore normal supply to homes, businesses and offices.

He said that the Management of AEDC regretted any inconveniences, and appealled to electricity consumers for understanding.
