The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has projected that the Nigerian economy will grow by 3.24 percent in 2022, despite the inflationary challenges occasioned by global socio-economic events.

ñ reports Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of CBN, stated this  Monday, March 21, 2022, while presenting a communique after the Bankers’ Bank Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.

Emefiele said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also had projected the economy to grow at 2.7 percent, while the Federal Government projected a 4.21 percent growth.

He, however, noted the MPC was concerned about the impact the global increase in petroleum and other products was having on the Nigerian economy.

Emefiele also said: “The committee further noted that this has resulted to inflation, and believes that specific actions need to be taken to ensure that this trend does not continue.” The CBN Chief, therefore, urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited to accelerate measures towards ensuring adequate supply of petroleum products to consumers.

He as well frowned on the rate of oil theft recorded in recent times, which he noted had had a debilitating impact on the Nigerian Government’s revenue.

The proposed take off of the Dangote Refinery within the year would help to improve the supply of petroleum products across the country, said he.
