Consumer Safety: 3 Nigerians sentenced to 6-month imprisonment for rice adulteration

In an attempt to safeguard the well-being of consumers, the Jigawa State Consumer Protection Board has arrested and sentenced three persons to six-month imprisonment for mixing 10 bags of paddy rice with the husks in the state.

Farouk Abdallah Mallam Madori, Chairman of the regulatory Board, who disclosed this development said that the accused men were arrested in Hadejia market, in Hadejia Local Government area of Jigawa State of Nigeria.

The persons arrested and prosecuted for the infraction are Adamu Muhammad, Usman Ibrahim and Umar Adamu, report stated.

Abdullahi said the accused persons had been arraigned before the mobile court of the Jigawa State Consumer Protection Board, presided by Justice Munir Sarki Jahun.

The court sentenced them to six months’ imprisonment, or the option of paying a fine of N70,000 each after finding them guilty of the offence.
