Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has announced upgrade of the State College of Education (OSCOED), Ilesa, to a full-fledged university.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ gathered Governor Oyetola announced this development Thursday, March 31, 2021, in Ilesa, during the inauguration and handing-over of the N1billion Ijesaland Geriatric Centre funded by the community to the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.

The Osun State Governor also disclosed, that the government had engaged KPMG, a corporate consultant, to come up with the sustainability plan for upgrade of the academic institution.

Oyetola stated: “Let me say that, having looked into and examined carefully the request made by prominent sons and daughters of Ijesaland, and the Owa, our highly-revered Royal Father, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba (Dr.) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, government has decided to upgrade the Osun College of Education, Ilesa, to a full-fledged University.â€

Oyetola also noted that the initiative was another testament to the generosity of Ijesa people. The gesture would go a long way to complement his administration’s sustained investment in the health sector, he said.

The governor further stated: “Considering our nation’s growing aged population and the absence of the requisite medical care for our senior citizens, this project is certainly excellently well-thought-out and has definitely come to fill a much-needed void.

“In other words, the Ijesa Geriatric Centre is a welcome development as it brings closer to our people a specialised geriatric care.”

Oyetola added: “This is against the background of the truism that being old is not a disease, and that senior citizens have a right to medical care as indeed the younger population.â€

In his remarks, Olayinka Fasuyi, who is the Asiwaju of Ijesaland and initiator of the project, said timely support and donations from the people of Ijesaland assisted in no small measure towards completion of the hospital.

Fasuyi applauded the unparalleled commitment and dexterity of the Ijesa to their community development, which was demonstrated in Owa’s Palace and the hospital project.

Asiwaju of Ijesaland noted through the commitment of the indigenes, the community has successfully built and delivered the second geriatric centre in Nigeria.

He, therefore, commended Governor Oyetola “for heeding our age-old prayers of upgrading the 44-year-old College of Education, Ilesa, to a full-fledged University.

Fasuyi stated:

“Mr. Governor, You have honoured us, God will continue to honour you. “You have listened to our requests and our overdue agitations. God will not forsake you.

“You have rekindled our hope as Ijesa people, and you have made us proud with this declaration.

“You shall continue to be celebrated.”

He added: “I assure you that Ijesaland shall vote massively beyond your imagination in return of your kind gesture to us.

“It is only God in His infinity that will compensate you.â€

In his goodwil message, Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Aromolaran, lauded the governor for achievements his administration has recorded in various sectors of the economy.

His Imperial Majesty declared that it was a joyful development that the new health facility was constructed to complement the governor’s effort at improving the health sector in Osun State.

Osun Governor has his name cast in gold, says House Speaker

In a related development, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly (OSHA), has commended Governor Oyetola, for upgrading the State College of Education, in Ilesa, to a University.

The Speaker in a statement issued Friday, April 1 said Oyetola had carved his name in gold by bringing into fruition the yearning of the people of Ilesa and Ijesa by upgrading the age-long College into a full-fledged University.

He noted the governor’s gesture would go a long way to complement his administration in the educational sector, therefore re-invigorating the successes achieved in the three years of his government.

According to him, with the singular action of upgrading the college, among other gestures, the administration is focused on further development of the Ilesa town.

Owoeye also said: “Our people appreciate Your Excellency for hearkening to their life-long wishes of having a full fledged citadel of education like the university.â€

“With the uprading of the 44-year-old College of Education, Ilesa, to a University, Your Excellency have honoured our people, and God will continue to honour you.

“You have graciously listened to our requests, an attribute of a great leader.
