The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has stated that stakeholders play a critical role in unlocking the vast potential of 5G Technology.

Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive聽 Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC said this Thursday, June 9, 2022, in his keynote address at the 2022 Nigeria DigitalSense Forum on Internet聽 Governance聽 for Development and the official聽 unveiling of ‘Sagacity of Digital Revolution’.

Agency report indicates the theme of the Forum is 鈥�5G: Enthroning Internet Governance聽 for Digital Economy’.

The NCC EVC/CEO also said that this potential could be achieved by collaboration and partnership with various stakeholders in the telecoms industry ecosystem.

It could also ensure the provision of robust government policies and excellent regulatory framework being implemented.

He said that within any administration, government was required to put in place excellent policies that would foster innovation and development.

Danbatta, who was represented by Abraham Osademi, Head of Spectrum at NCC, said as policymakers, the government should also consider to undertake its own independent economic and social assessment and viability of deploying new technologies.

According to him, it is聽 with a view to providing a clear regulatory direction that will enable all relevant stakeholders including the network operators to make informed decisions.

He said such decisions would ensure the deployment of technologies in a manner most beneficial to the nation and its citizens.

鈥樷�橳oday, as some of you may know, in Nigeria, government has already developed some policy documents such as the Nigerian Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2020鈥�2030).

鈥樷�橧t aims to accelerate the National Digital Economy for a Digital Nigeria,鈥欌�� he said

He, however,聽 lauded the the event, saying that the theme of the event was timely.

The Director-General,聽 National聽 Broadcasting聽 Commission (NBC), Mr. Balance Ilelah, said digitalisation was what Nigerians required at this point in time as well as Digital聽 Economy

The NBC Chief, represented聽 at the forum by Dr. Chibuike Ogwumike, Zonal Director of NBC Lagos, emphasised the need for ethical internet usage, especially in the political era.

Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, Chairman of Lagos Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists聽 (NUJ), said there was need for all to embrace digitalisation.

Ajayi observed that digitalisation has made things easier and better for all, and as such should be used positively in the country.

He, however, applauded the unveiling of the new volume, and encouraged people to get copies of the book.

Mr. Remmy Nweke, author of 鈥楽agacity of a Digital聽 Revolution’, was quoted to have said the book was a collation of well-researched analytics on several subjects but not limited to diversification of the Nigerian economy.

Nweke said it was particularly聽 recommended聽 for students of Mass Communication, New Media, and others.
