In a move to further engage the younger generation of Nigerians on the significance of digital skills to drive the country’s progress, veteran Nollywood actor, Mr. Jide Kosoko, his daughter, Temi Kosoko, and skit maker Kemi Ikusedun, also known as Kemz Mama, or MummyWa, have trained Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, students on mobile phones use for content production.

They trio also trained the students on the importance of digital skills to reduce the unemployment rate, create wealth and advance the West African country’s development.

The event was part of a two-day workshop hosted by ‘Shoot Your Shot Africa’ themed ‘Content Creation as a tool for social change’, report said.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ learnt cinematographer Adebisi Peters and the institution’s Department of Mass Communication students organised the forum.

Joining virtually via video call, Kosoko told the over 200 attending students to be passionate about whatever they do, and be digitally equipped with knowledge of creation to reduce unemployment in Nigeria.

Temi, Kosoko’s daughter, was said to be live at the event where she admonished the students to be consistent in content creation to overcome challenges.

She reportedly outgrew her father’s shadow and made a name for herself with consistent efforts over time.

The younger Kosoko noted: “My father is a celebrity, but I have never tapped into his popularity; I built myself by myself.â€

Temi, therefore, advised young people to be self-assured and knowledgeable about what their target audiences want; only then will they be able to achieve great communication and content creation.

Likewise, popular skit maker Kemz Mama, a facilitator at the forum urged young people to be versatile in their content rather than focusing on a single idea if they want to move the content creation market forward in the 21st Century.

The content maker, who features prominently alongside Debo Adebayo (Mr. Macaroni), report further stated, said it was important for youths to diversify and explore dynamism in their creative pursuits.

Kemz Mama said: “Mr. Macaroni has created a lot of series and it is not just Daddy and Mummy wa; he has created professor series, he is not just doing one thing, he is also innovating himself with what is going on.

“If you want to be a content creator, you can’t just keep doing what’s working for you; you have to branch out and try new things.”

The facilitator as well noted: “You can start from scratch and rise to prominence in society simply by using your phone to post on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Tiktok.

“I started using my phone to post my content on YouTube, which increased my subscribers.

“I went long distances by taking buses from one location to another just to distribute flyers about YouTube page details every day.”

Mr. Peters, the CEO, The Kreativo, who pioneered ‘Shoot Your Shot African’, was also quoted to have stated: “It is time we revolutionised the use of new broadcast systems, online communication, and new media, which is why we organised this workshop in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communications to educate the students to be creative.”

Samuelson Oyejide, a popular filmmaker who gained fame for using his phone for high-quality shoots, among others, was also present at the event to empower the youths.
