Wampum stated the decision to shut down such illegal schools was taken after realisation that over 5,000 private schools were operating without required licences.

The Commissioner also noted that 90 percent of private schools in Plateau have failed to adhere to government policies and mandates.

According to her, 85 percent of the 495 private schools earlier granted licences had compromised required standards in this regard.

“This is to inform the general public that the operating licences of all private Nursery/Pre-primary, Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in the state will have to revalidate their certification,” said Wampum.

The commissioner however said the exercise was to check the proliferation of illegal Private Schools and to support those that operate within the ambit of the law, to achieving quality education for all.
