Following allegations of cover-up of a crime committed at a game farm, Parliamentarians have said will appoint an independent panel that will recommend whether or not to initiate a process to impeach President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.

It was learnt Parliament Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula stated the panel would be constituted after a request by the opposition African Transformation Movement, according to a letter published on the party’s Twitter handle August 5, 2022.

The latest decision comes as President Ramaphosa is under increasing pressure from opposition parties to step aside from the country’s Presidency over a burglary said to have occurred two years ago at his game farm.

The President now faces mounting allegations that he concealed the crime.

Ramaphosa has refused to answer opposition lawmakers’ questions about the incident, in which South African former spy boss said $4 million was stolen.

However, in a separate Tweet last Friday, Presidency’s Spokesman Vincent Magwenya criticised the “frantic rush” by opposition parties to tarnish Ramaphosa’s name “without a shred of proof”.
