Update: 1 Confirmed dead, 8 people injured in Kano building collapse

A person has been confirmed dead with eight others injured in a building collapse in Kano State, Northern Nigeria.

It is recalled that an uncompleted three-storey building caved in at about 3:05 p.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at a popular GSM market along Beirut Road, in Kano City.

Following the incident, the emergency officials embarked on rescue operations at the site.

A few hours after the building collapse Tuesday, Sale Aliyu, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), disclosed that a dead body had been retrieved from the rubble, Channels TV report said.

The eight rescued persons have been evacuated to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has sympathised with the victims.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Governor Ganduje, in a statement issued in Kano, directed intensive rescue operations to get to those victims still trapped in the rubble.

The governor, lamenting the unfortunate incident, assured the people, that an investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the collapsed structure still under construction in the ancient city.
