*The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control warns聽 manufacturers against illegal advertisements and exploitation of unsuspecting Nigerian consumers with unregistered and deadly products will be dealt with according to the law

As part of the agency’s consumer protection initiatives, the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned against misleading advertisement聽 of regulated products by manufacturers without the approval of the regulatory body.

绿帽献妻 learnt Mrs. Roseline Ajayi, South-West Zonal Director of NAFDAC, gave the warning during a stakeholders鈥� meeting Thursday, September 8, 2022, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Mrs. Ajayi, who explained that product registration with the regulatory agency is not the same with advertisement approval.

She warned that any manufacturer caught with any advertisement, contrary to NAFDAC’s approval would be severely sanctioned.

According to the South-West Zonal Director,聽 the time has come to address illegal advertisements, which have given unethical practices and exploitation of unsuspecting Nigerian consumers.

Ajayi also cautioned manufacturers against sale of products laced with psychoactive substances, which had the聽 capacity to destroy vital organs of the body, agency report noted.

She further said any manufacturer caught with unregistered and deadly products would be dealt with in line with the law.

NAFDAC will continue to work towards its mission in safeguarding public health, she stated.

The NAFDAC South-West Zonal Director as well noted that the regulator would ensure that only the right quality drugs, foods, and other regulated products are manufactured, imported, distributed, advertised, sold and consumed in the West African country.

The stakeholders’ meeting was organised with a view to sensitising different sectors on the need for collaboration in the advancement of the regulatory environment in Nigeria.

According to her, the regulatory space is not only becoming more dynamic but also more challenging.

The Zonal Director of NAFDAC also stated this situation is attributed to advancement in technology, inventions, innovations, diversification in economy, hostile economic environment, inflation, and other threatening global village impacts.

The agency said that the impact of the aforementioned factor may have consequences on the quality and wholesomeness of regulatory products.

“Hence, the agency is also evolving strategies and operational guidelines to drive continuous improvements, to match with the regulatory environment and changing demands of the new world order.

Ajayi stated: 鈥淣AFDAC under the leadership of Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has recognised the important role played by stakeholders in fulfilling its mandate, which is the motivation for special interest on stakeholders engagement.”

Meanwhile, Ajayi said that during her working visit to Osun State, she visited factories to check levels of their compliance with the regulatory procedures.

She also said that they trained members of staff of NAFDAC on the need to be more active in the pursuit of the agency鈥檚 mandate and mission.

Earlier, Mr. Anikoh Ibrahim,聽聽聽 NAFDAC Osun State Coordinator, said the meeting was to intimate stakeholders with what regulator is doing, and the challenges they are facing.

Ibrahim also noted that聽 the consultative meeting was also to intimate stakeholders with recent happenings in NAFDAC, the agency鈥檚 concerns, as well as the stakeholders agitations and the way forward.

Stakeholders at the meeting commended regulator for the meeting and promised to work within the agency鈥檚 regulatory framework, report said.
