*President Muhammadu Buhari, at a banking and finance conference in Abuja, commends the industry regulators, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, NDIC, SEC and NICOM for ‘diligent work’ in ensuring financial system stability in the West African country

President Muhammadu Buhari has applauded the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for diligently working towards achieving financial system stability in the West African country.

Buhari gave the commendation Tuesday, September 13, in his address at the 15th Annual Banking and Finance Conference organised by the Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, FCT.

The theme of the conference is, 鈥淩epositioning the Financial Services Industry for an Evolving Glocal Context”.

Represented at the conference by Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Honourable Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, the Nigerian President stated that the theme of the event was appropriate in view of the need to constantly adapt to internationally acceptable best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the banking and finance sector.

Buhari also lauded the industry regulators as the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and National Insurance Commission (NICOM), among other stakeholders for their contributions to the West African country’s economy.

绿帽献妻 reporth the representatives of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and聽聽 Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, as well as other stakeholders from both the public and private sectors attended the conference.

The President assured the stakeholders of the聽 government鈥檚 support to the banking and financial sector in Nigeria.

Buhari further said: 鈥淟et me take this opportunity to commend the regulators of the industry聽 (CBN, NDIC, SEC NICOM) for their diligent work which has ensured financial system stability in the country over the years.

鈥淚 wish to also assure the entire banking and finance community that government will continue to support the industry in all appropriate ways.

鈥淕overnment will ensure that the sector continues to deliver on its mandates while creating value and innovation for its customers.”

Buhari urged Nigerians to exploit the country鈥檚 comparative advantages for economic growth and prosperity.

He stated: 鈥淲e need a Nigeria of the future that harnesses her strengths, competences and cultural diversity to tackle the challenges that plague her people.

鈥淔rom climate change to pandemics, and insecurity.

鈥淕overnment will continue to formulate and implement policies that are aimed at promoting self-sustenance in critical areas, such as energy, agriculture, health, technologies.”
