Nigeria confirms 14 new COVID-19 cases in Lagos, Abuja

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 14 fresh cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.

Through the disease control agency’s verified Twitter account, the NCDC disclosed that as of 8.35 p.m. Thursday, March 26, Lagos has had 12 additional cases with Abuja, FCT, recording two new cases.

According to NCDC, the aggregate number of Coronavirus cases recorded in the country as of Thursday night is 65.

Of the 65 confirmed cases, it said that three had been discharged, while a death was recorded.

According to the tweet, six cases were detected on a vessel, three were returning travellers into Nigeria, while one was a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case.

Lagos now has 44, Abuja 12, Ogun 3, Ekiti 1, Oyo 1, Edo 1, Bauchi 1, Osun 1, and Rivers a case respectively.

Meanwhile, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Honourable Minister for Health, has said he believes that COVID-19 pandemic can be sexually transmitted.

Dr. Ehanire, who stated this at a media briefing in Abuja, FCT, Thursday, claimed that “if a person is positive, the virus can be transmitted sexually.â€

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says though a lot is yet unknown about the virus, the global health body maintains that Coronavirus is transmitted through droplets from an infected person.

The current known routes of transmission of the virus are the mouth, nose and eyes.

Healthcare professionals have also said that there is no evidence to show that the virus can be transmitted through vaginal or anal sexual intercourse but that it can be transmitted through kissing an infected person.
