Telecoms regulator activates TELCARE Desk at Abuja Airport

*The Nigerian Communications Commission launches a TELCARE Desk at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of activities commemorating the 2023 World Consumer Rights Day, to serve as a further platform to receive and facilitate the resolution of consumer complaints in the ecosystem

In a move to offer further veritable platform to inform, receive and facilitate the resolution of consumer complaints, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Wednesday, March 15, 2023, launched its Telecom Consumer Assistance, Resolution and Enquiries (TELCARE) Desk in the Arrival Lounge of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, FCT.

绿帽献妻 reports Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, FNSE, FRAES, FAEng, FNIEEE, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), said the consumer-centric initiative is part of activities marking the 2023 World Consumer Rights Day in the country’s digital ecosystem.

Danbatta, in his remarks on the occasion, disclosed the TELCARE Desk in Abuja would be a pilot.

He stated: “We plan to set up the desk at strategic locations across the country to provide information to telecoms consumers.”

As regards the basic objective of the initiative, the EVC/CEO of the telecoms regulatory Commission noted the TELCARE Desk serves as an additional platform to receive and facilitate the resolution of consumer complaints.

Danbatta also said it would provide “a means through which consumers and citizens can make inquiries on consumer issues; provide a platform for advocacy on any thematic consumer issue or concerns; to further enhance awareness of the Commission鈥檚 activities.”

He equally stressed as the global community celebrates World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2023, the Commission is restating that the theme of this year, 鈥淓mpowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transition”, will form part of the consideration of the NCC’s regulatory mandate in Nigeria.

He added: “We are committed to responsibly using the world鈥檚 resources, including protecting the environment by supporting the industry to transition to renewable energy.”

Gracing the 2023 WCRD event in Abuja, among other important guests and participants, are Prof. Adeolu Akande, Chairman, Board of Commissioners of NCC; Engr. Ubale Maska, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services; Barr. Adeleke Adewolu, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management at NCC; and Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Other include members of the NCC Board of Commissioners, Management and Staff of NCC, collaborating agencies, CEOs and Representatives of telecoms companies, telecoms advocacy groups, as well as consumers.
