The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has assured stakeholders in the telecoms sector of the economy that the Quality of Service (QoS) and consumers’ Quality of Experience (QoE) in telecoms services would continue to improve with stable tariffs in the ecosystem.

绿帽献妻 reports Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), said this in his welcome address at the recent second edition of the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content EXPO (NTICE 2023), which took place on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Danbatta noted in his address, that NTICE is being regarded as “the only telecoms event in that is solely focused on Indigenous Content promotion, development and adaptation in Nigeria.”

Speaking on the theme for聽 NTICE 2023, 鈥淗arnessing Indigenous Content for Economic Growth; Networking to boost Investment鈥�, the NCC Executive Vice-Chairman described the annual expo as a remarkable opportunity to celebrate and showcase Nigeria’s achievements in the world of telecommunications, technology, indigenous content creation and adoption in the digital economy.

Danbatta, who was represented at the event by Engr. Ubale Maska, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services at NCC, urged the stakeholders and participants in the event through the “Expo, Pitch and Panel” sessions to recognise “the transformative power of domestic innovation and the pivotal role it plays in shaping digital future of nations, their economies and their futures.”

The EVC/CEO also stressed the Quality of Service and Quality of Experience of consumers had continued to improve in the telecoms sector.

He equally acknowledged the increase in cost-of-service provision to the telecoms operators in the West African country.

Danbatta, therefore, urged stakeholders “must embrace indigenous content and value creation within the telecoms value chain, otherwise, increase in telecoms tariff will be inevitable.”

“The Commission is fully committed to the drive of the Federal Government to place the Nigerian economy on a sustainable pedestal through all the necessary policies put in place,” stated the Executive Vice-Chairman.

Some NCC’s contributions to national economy

Highlighting the significance and contribution of the telecoms industry to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the past few years, Prof. Danbatta stated that the sector is among the biggest contributors to socio-economic growth of the country in respect of its several achievements in the sector.

Danbatta said: “The sector鈥檚 performance was instrumental in lifting Nigeria out of recession with 12.45% contribution to the GDP in (fourth quarter) Q4 2020. This figure increased to 14.13% as of Q1 2023.”

To further sustain and further improve on QoS and QoE in telecommunications services in Nigeria,聽 Danbatta advised stakeholders: “We must embrace indigenous content and value creation within the telecoms value chain, otherwise, increase in telecoms tariff will be inevitable.
