He noted Kyari’s participation in the forthcoming energy event in the Southern African country underscores the significance of Nigeria as a major contributor to the continent’s energy landscape.

Nigeria’s energy sector and sustainable future

The AEW organisers stated that as one of Africa’s largest oil and gas producers, Nigeria plays a pivotal role in advancing energy security, sustainability, and economic growth across the continent.

The Chamber said: “With a well-established energy sector, Nigeria is committed to expanding its exploration and production efforts, and we extend an invitation to global investors and regional partners to join us in shaping Nigeria’s sustainable energy future.”

As regards Kyari’s scheduled Keynote Address at the continental event, Ayuk also said Kyari would deliver a keynote address, providing invaluable insights into Nigeria’s sustainable energy agenda.

“His extensive experience and leadership in the energy sector, along with NNPC’s crucial role in Nigeria’s energy landscape, make him a prominent voice in Africa’s energy sector,” he stated.

He described the GCEO’s journey within NNPC, which began in 1991, as “a testament to his dedication and expertise.”

NNPC’s contribution to energy security

According to AEW, under Kyari’s tenure, NNPC has championed transparency, efficiency, and innovation in West African country’s energy sector.

It further stressed that significant reforms and initiatives had been introduced to transform NNPC into a more commercially driven entity.

The event organisers stated: “With approximately 37 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and the potential for a threefold increase in natural gas reserves, Nigeria stands among the world’s top oil and gas producers.”

In terms of available investment opportunities in the downstream sector of the economy, Ayuk said

Nigeria is actively seeking investments and collaboration to drive forward key projects, including the OML 13 Field, the Bonga North Field, and the Okpokunou/Tuomo West Cluster Development.

The Executive Chairman of AEC disclosed the country’s “Decade of Gas” programme presents substantial billion-Dollar investment opportunities across the gas value chain.

On regulatory landscape and downstream sector in Nigeria

The AEW also stated that Nigeria’s regulatory landscape, shaped by the 2021 Petroleum Industry Act, “aims to harness oil and gas investments for sustainable socioeconomic growth.”

It said in the downstream sector, efforts are underway at reducing reliance on petroleum product imports.

“The commissioning of the 650,000 bpd (barrel per day) Dangote Refinery in 2023, with NNPC holding a 20 percent stake, will transform Nigeria’s economy and ensure a stable crude oil supply.”

Recent achievements, by AEW

Ayuk as well noted the NNPC’s partnership with UTM Offshore Limited for the UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project marks a significant advancement in domestic gas utilisation in Nigeria.

The Chamber said the confirmation of oil in northern Nasarawa State also underscores NNPC’s dedication to exploring the country’s inland basins, which has the potential to transform local economies and generate employment for Nigerians.

The AEC, therefore, urged industry stakeholders and energy investors to participate in the African Energy Week 2023,

He assured Kyari’s insights and the networking opportunities at AEW would be “invaluable for anyone interested in Africa’s energy industry.”
