Economic Sabotage: Taskforce arrests 8 vessels with stolen refined oil in Rivers

Amid the current energy crisis inducing hardships for millions of consumers across the West African country, the Joint Task Force of ‘Operation Delta Safe’ says it has arrested eight barges laden with about 100,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automative Gas Oil (AGO) also known as diesel, in the Bonny Area of Rivers State, South-South region.

Adedokun Siyanbade, Maritime Component Commander of Operation Delta Safe, who led reporters on an inspection of the vessels Sunday, September 24, 2023, said the JTF remained determined to end crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

Siyanbade also disclosed that investigation would be carried out and anyone found guilty must be brought to book.

Following the recent development, the JTF of Operation Delta Safe  has pledged to implement the mandate of the Service Chiefs to rid the South-South region of economic saboteurs pillaging the country’s oil wealth.
