2023 World Mental Health Day: Nigerian First Lady Tinubu advocates collective action for consumers’ well-being, others

As Nigeria and the rest of the global community commemorate the 2023 World Mental Health Day, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has urged  the citizenry to pay more attention to their mental wellbeing and related ailments.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the First Lady, in her speech to commemorate the day Tuesday, October 10, 2023, said the challenges of our times had tested the people’s resilience, especially social media and societal pressure.

This development, she noted, has left many faced with emotional and psychological burdens that have taken toll on their mental wellbeing.

Senator Tinubu stressed the crucial need for Nigerians to recognise the significance of mental health and take collective action to support those who are affected in one way or the other.

She also said: “As we strive for a more promising nation, let us prioritise engaging our youth in candid conversations that will enhance their mental health, help them manage their emotions and expectations better.”

According to her, doing these would help to promote healthy relationships with others, and ultimately, improve their productivity in the economy.

Senator Tinubu also stated: “Let us foster a culture of understanding and empathy, breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues. We all have a role to play in this global scourge.”

The First Lady urged the traditional rulers, religious leaders, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and all well-meaning Nigerians to join the government st all levels in showing concern and support for those seeking help.

“Together, we can create a society where mental wellness is a priority, and every individual feels valued and contributors to societal growth.

“We can build a healthier, more compassionate nation for all,” Senator Tinubu stated.
