The Nigeria Police authorities have warned residents of the state against grounding economic activities ahead of the Nigeria Labour Congress’ (NLC) planned protest slated for Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

It is recalled the Organised Labour February 16 this year had declared a two-day nationwide protest over the comparatively harsh economic situation in the country.

Reacting to the NLC planned protests, Adegoke Fayoade, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, in a statement Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Spokesman, issued Sunday, February 25, said the Lagos Police Command would not allow the disruption of commercial activities during the planned protests in the state.

Fayoade stated any protesters that infringe on the rights of other Nigerians would be punished.

The Commissioner of Police also said: “The Command will live up to its mandate of ensuring that no person or group of persons is allowed to infringe on the fundamental human rights of others, especially the rights to freedom of movement and right to dignity of human persons.”

The statement equally noted: “CP Fayoade, therefore, warns all intending protesters that anyone found infringing on the rights of other Nigerians will be dealt with in accordance with the law.â€

The Police Commissioner urged Lagos residents to perform their lawful duties without fear of harassment.

Security assets have been deployed for safety across Lagos State, assured Fayoade in the statement.
