Food Sufficiency: Nigerians should embrace farming to boost agricultural production –First Lady Tinubu

As part of measures to increase agricultural production, complement government’s, and add value to the food baskets of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, Nigerian First Lady, has restated her call on Nigerians to get more involved in agricultural production in the West African country.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the call when she received Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, in her office, in the State House, Abuja, FCT.

Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stated the First Lady also stressed the objective of the various interventions of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), especially in the areas of Agriculture, Empowerment, Education, Health and Social Welfare, is to complement the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

She stated: “The President has made the right decisions. These decisions will help us build a Nigeria that is more respected.

“We should be more accountable as a people as regards our resources.â€

According to her, there is a need to inspire the youth to think appropriately about Nigeria.

“We have to inspire them to think Nigeria first before any State,” the First Lady said.

She explained that this necessitated her, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI organise the #ONE NIGERIA/Unity Fabric.

Oluremi Tinubu further noted: “Youth between 15 years and 25 years will design the fabric depicting Nigeria and not just their State or tribe. The prize money is huge.”

On Food Outreach Programme for IDPs and PLWDs

In regard to issues related to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the RHI had commenced the monthly Food Outreach Programme to the IDPs and Persons with Disabilities.

She affirmed: “I am not being deterred. I will continue to do all I can for the people.”

UN will partner with Renewed Hope Initiative, says Mohammed

Earlier on her remarks during the visit, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed explained that the global organisation is looking forward to seeing Nigeria commit more funds to the development of the youth, women and girls.

Mohammed said: “We need your voice to what the UN is doing with women empowerment, girls, poverty alleviation, education and the rest.”

The Deputy UN Scribe disclosed the readiness of the United Nations to partner with the Renewed Hope Initiative, an initiative of the First Lady in these areas knowing that Senator Oluremi Tinubu is passionate about these areas.

The visit was also an opportunity to introduce Mohamed Moustapha Malik Fall, new Resident Coordinator of the UN in Nigeria, to the First Lady.
