EU launches €9m energy projects in Nigeria as Alake, Ekpo, Adebayo, others speak at aef24 in Barcelona

The European Union (EU) has announced two new projects worth €9 million for Nigeria, as energy leaders are set to speak at aef24 in Barcelona.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports the transnational event, Africa Energy Forum (aef) 2024 is scheduled to hold June 25-28 this year, in Barcelona, Spain.

The official theme of the Energy event is: “Energy Systems of the Future – Balancing Africa’s Needs with Global Goals”.

Speaking on the two newly activated energy projects in Nigeria contained in an update sent this publication Thursday, March 28, George Hudson, Portfolio Manager and Director of Corporate Development at

EnergyNet, stated that the new projects are set “to enhance energy accessibility and promote circular economy practices to address pollution and climate change, meeting the EU’s ongoing commitment to helping the Federal Government provide clean, affordable, and sustainable energy for everyone.”

It is also noted that Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Honourable Minister for Power, recently reiterated the Federal Government’s plan to boost the West African country’s electricity generation from 3,500MW to 6,500MW in the next three to six months.

According to Hudson, Nigeria’s energy leaders at aef24 are Adebayo Adelabu, Minister for Power; Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, Honourable Minister of State (Gas) for Petroleum Resources; and Dr. Oladele Alake, Honourable Minister for Solid Minerals Development

Other leaders gracing the aef24 are Aliyu Tukur Tahir, Managing Director, Nigerian Electricity Management Services; Chiedu Ugbo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC); and Tinuade Sanda, Managing Director/CEO, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

Nigeria is one of the countries with representation at the highest level at aef, alongside Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ethiopia, and more from across the continent, noted the Director of Corporate Development at EnergyNet.

He also stated: “Along with speakers and delegates from governments, utilities, regulators and the vital private sector,” stakeholders are enjoined to participate in the June event for conversations and collaborations, which will help to secure “a just and profitable energy future for Africa.”

“We look forward to welcoming you in Barcelona,” Hudson stated.
