The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says its operatives have arrested eight suspects in connection with a newly uncovered artisanal crude oil refinery in Abia State, South-East Nigeria.

The NSCDC disclosed this development in a statement Sunday, June 16, via its verified official social media account.

The Commandant General鈥檚 Special Intelligence Squad (CGSIS) conducted the operation, which led to the discovery of the illegal refinery in the state, noted the statement.

The agency also explained the site, operating within a swamp forest in Abia State, spanned a large expanse of land and contained about 200 local cooking ovens.

The NSCDC also stated: 鈥淐ommandant General Special Intelligence Squad (CGSIS) arrests eight suspects in a newly discovered artisanal crude oil refinery, operating on a large expanse of land with no fewer than two hundred local cooking ovens inside the swamp forest in Abia State.鈥�

The Corps, therefore, assured Nigerians that its operatives would continue to work towards dismantling such operations and bringing those involved to justice in the country.
