Digital Economy: Nigeria directs MDAs to fully digitalise operations, services by 2025

The Federal Government of Nigeria has stressed the digitalisation of the West African country’s workforce is a reference point in ongoing transformation, stating it is cardinal in achieving President Bola Ahmed administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians.

ñ reports Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), stated this Wednesday, June 18, 2024, at a media briefing to mark this year’s Civil Serviced Week, in Abuja, FCT.

Yemi-Esan directed all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that they fully digitalise their operations and services by next year.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation said her Office had been working closely with Galaxy Backbone Limited in order to ensure the provision of Broadband services to all MDAs.

The Office has gone digitalised, as mails and proposals from from individuals and corporate bodies must be sent to her Office via designated email address, Yemi-Esan told reporters.

Besides enhancing efficient service delivery, Yemi-Esan further explained that the digitalisation of MDAs would curb the incessant leakage of sensitive documents to the public.

In order to achieve this laudable objective, the Head of the Civil Service affirmed that her Office has been meeting quarterly with Permanent Secretaries in various MDAs to ensure the actualisation of this goal.

On government’s transition to paperless office

“Every Permanent Secretary is responsible for the digitalisation of their MDAs,” she declared.

Yemi-Esan as well revealed that some MDAs are in the fore-front of meeting the deadline for digitalisation in view of the level they have attained in ensuring the process.

She stated: “The digitalisation of the workforce is another reference point in ongoing transformation, as this is cardinal in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Following very extensive work carried out in collaboration with AIG-Imoukhuede Foundation, the Office has put in place the required mechanisms for smooth transition to digitalisation.”

She also said: “My Office has successfully transitioned to paperless office.

“All personnel and policy files are digitalised and work flow processes are now transacted digitally.

“All official correspondences in the form of mails, internal and external circulars are processed electronically.”

The HoCSF said: “The Office of the Head of the Civil does not collect physical mails from outside.

“Also, all the ministries are not left behind as they have been directed to ensure fully digitalisation by 2025.”

Yemi-Esan added, stating 69,308 Nigerian civil servants are currently on the payroll of the Federal Government, after thorough verification by the Committee set up to carry the exercise.

Commenting further on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS), she stated that 1,618 civil servants were detected with fake letters of employment or were illegally employed.
