CBN Governor reassures citizens Nigerian economy will overcome current challenges

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has offered a fresh hope to Nigerians on how the economy the country’s economy will emerge strong from the current challenges.

ñ learnt Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of CBN, stated this Monday, July 15, 2024, at an emergency session of a National Assembly (NASS) Joint Committee on Finance, in Abuja, FCT.

Represented at the session with the Federal legislators by Muhammad Abdullahi, Deputy Governor on Economic Policy, Cardoso said despite the current ailing economy, the tough decisions taken over the last 12 months have started addressing the decades-long issues.

Earlier, on the state of the economy, H.E. Atiku Bagudu, Honourable Minister for Budget and National Planning, had asserted that the 2024 Budget is already being implemented.

Bagudu noted there is an ongoing negotiation with Labour leaders on the new National Minimum Wage to ensure that there are no further disruptions to the economy.

Likewise, Malam Melee Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, again, assured Nigerians, that the Port Harcourt Refinery would resume oil production by early August 2024, while that of Kaduna would commence by December this year.

Having announced a number of dates for the Port Harcourt Refinery to commence operations earlier, Kyari however, maintained that “he is not lying” as he reaffirmed the new August date.

The NNPCL GCEO also explained with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery up and running, Nigeria’s target of attaining two million barrels per day (bpd), and becoming a net exporter of petroleum products by December is possible.
