NCC directs network operators, service providers to develop Disaster Recovery Plan

*The Nigerian Communications Commission notifies all Mobile Network Operators and Service Providers of the industry Guidelines on Disaster Recovery 2023, urging strict compliance with content of the directive, as the Commission will enforce its powers for non-compliance in line with the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 and all other relevant Regulations

In line with the provision in Schedule 2, Paragraph 1.9 of the regulatory guidelines, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has notified all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Service Providers (SPs) that the industry Guidelines on Disaster Recovery 2023 is now operative.

ñ reports the telecoms sector regulatory Commission, which announced this development via a recent public notice posted on the NCC corporate Web site, asserted that “every licensee must develop and submit a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP).”

Mr. Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs (DPA) at NCC, in the notice also noted that the Guidelines requires that all licensees’ applications should be accompanied with a Draft DRP.

The NCC stated: “In furtherance of the above, the Commission has developed a Checklist to guide in drafting of the DRP in compliance with the provisions of the Guidelines.

“The Guidelines and Checklist have been published on the Web site of the Commission and can be accessed at the Web site of the NCC at .

“Please ensure you avail yourselves of the Checklist for guidance and necessary compliance.”

The Network Operators and Service Providers are, therefore, enjoined to download the Disaster Recovery Checklist, or alternatively, access the Checklist that is available as Annexure B of the published .

“There should be strict compliance with the content of this Notice as the Commission would not hesitate to exercise its enforcement powers as entrenched in the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 and all other relevant Regulations, for non-compliance with same,” Muoka stated.
