For their failure to obey prior regulatory warnings, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has closed several businesses in the Ikorodu area of the state, to tackle noise, air pollution, and other environmental infractions.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab (TKW), Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in the state, disclosed this development in a statement on X Friday, July 26, 2024.

Wahab stated that the Lagos State Government’s decision to shut the erring establishments followed a recent comprehensive enforcement operation, conducted in major areas, including Agric, Ibeshe, and Ikorodu areas of the cosmopolitan state.

The statement also noted despite prior warnings, several businesses, including hotels, bars, gas filling stations, poultry farms, and lounges, continued to flout the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency’s (LASEPA) directives.

The further Commissioner asserted: “As a result, these establishments have been temporarily shut down to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.”

The LASG listed the affected businesses to include Victory Hotel, Wendy Bar, Moore Gas Plant, Provider Farm and Poultry, Cloud 24, Little Palace Hotel, City Groove Lounge and Bar, Destiny Castle, and B.S. Gold Warehouse.

“LASEPA emphasised the importance of businesses complying with environmental standards, reiterating its commitment to fostering a sustainable and harmonious environment for Lagos residents.

“With repeated warnings issued to businesses across the state, LASEPA remains resolute in its commitment to rigorously enforcing the State environmental laws, ensuring compliance and achieving a clean and sustainable environment befitting Lagos State’s status as the nation’s Center of Excellence,” Wahab stated.
