Against the backdrop of recent allegations of economic sabotage levelled against the state oil company, Malam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has defended the personnel of the oil firm, stating that they have nothing to do with substandard importation of petroleum products into the West African country.

ñ reports Kyari said this Wednesday in Abuja when he appeared before Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Leader and Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, in the Senate, National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, FCT, over the alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry in Nigeria.

According to the GCEO of NNPCL, he has faced undue media attacks from persons doing everything to create the impression that the oil company is damaging the country’s economy in recent times.

The NNPC Limited is “faithful, and will not lie” to Nigerians, declared Kyari.

The GCEO also said: “We are not criminals and we are not thieves. We will protect our dignity so we can serve this country.”

The NNCPCL Chief further acknowledged though the country’s oil and gas industry is bleeding, and that there are things he knew, but could not talk about in public until “the time comes.”

He as well urged Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on investigating the alleged economic sabotage to make the probe sessions be televised live, going forward for all Nigerian consumers to monitor.
