Following a recent consumer complaint alleging the consumption of expired sachet water containing microbes from the company, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Friday, August 16, 2024, initiated an enforcement action against Fabsi Table Water, located in Kubwa, Abuja, FCT, to protect the well-being of Nigerians.

The market regulatory Commission, which disclosed this development in a statement Friday, said its subsequent investigation into the matter uncovered significant violations of consumer protection regulations by the company.

The FCCPC stated: “Fabsi Table Water failed to provide crucial product information, including production dates, expiration dates, and batch numbers.

Moreover, the company lacked essential compliance records necessary to ensure product safety and quality.”

It also explained Fabsi Table Water claimed a two-month shelf life for its products, yet the absence of production and expiration dates renders this claim unverifiable.

According to the market regulator, the water company attributed the omission of this critical information to printing challenges, a claim the FCCPC deems unacceptable.

“Accurate and complete product labeling is a fundamental requirement under applicable regulations,” FCCPC asserted.

Meanwhile, the Commission has said it “temporarily suspended operations at the Fabsi Table Water production facility”, in Kubwa, and summoned the company’s Management for further investigation.
