Digital Economy: NITDA harps on building AI techs for human advancement, sustainability and SDGs

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has emphasised the strategic importance of building and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the greater good of all humans.

ÂÌñÏ×ÆÞ reports Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of NITDA, stated this Wednesday, September 11, 2024, on Day 2 of the Global Inclusivity and AI: Africa Conference, in Abuja, FCT.

Inuwa, who noted this in a keynote address, titled: “Partnership to Catalyse Africa in the 4th Industrial Revolution”, at the forum, stressed the critical importance of developing AI technologies that serve humanity.

The Director-General asserted: “We cannot afford to build AI that does not assist humanity.”

The NITDA Chief Executive also highlighted the transformative power of AI, pointing out its potential to improve human well-being, foster societal advancement, promote environmental sustainability, and drive progress towards attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria, stated the agency.

In order to achieve these promising objectives with AI technologies, Inuwa, however, noted that achieving these benefits requires a collective effort of the stakeholders.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency said the Director-General as well underscored the shared responsibility to ensure that AI is developed and applied for the greater good of all Nigerians and humanity at large.
