NITDA, JICA partner on financial support for innovation in Nigeria’s startup ecosystem

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has intensified efforts at enhancing the lot of the startup ecosystem in Nigeria with the provision of financial support to “a dedicated fund” backing local startups working on economic and social development initiatives.

ñ reports Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, as part of such ongoing collaborations with the stakeholders recently met with the JICA team to receive an update on the progress of the “Preparatory Survey and Grant Assistance” project aimed at fostering a supportive environment for social startups.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency, in a message via its verified social media account, Friday, September 13, 2024, affirmed the grant is designed to enhance the startup ecosystem by providing financial support to a dedicated fund that backs local startups working on economic and social development initiatives.

The agency also noted the move is “in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s priority area of accelerating diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, creative arts, manufacturing and innovation.”

NITDA said: “The project aims to establish an onshore fund management system, further driving innovation to address key social challenges.”
