Infrastructure Upgrade: Lagos reopens Bridge for traffic flow after rehabilitation

As part of the efforts at easing off human and vehicular traffic flow between the Mainland and Island, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area of the state after the road infrastructure was temporarily closed recently.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Honourable Commissioner for Transport in Lagos State, disclosed this information in a statement issued Monday, September 16, 2024, in Lagos.

The Commissioner said the state’s Ministry of Works had carried out the rehabilitation work, which it commenced July 22 this year.

Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, performed the reopening the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge.

Osiyemi also affirmed the recent rehabilitation would ease movement and traffic flow between the Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island.

The Commissioner for Transport stated: “We are thrilled to announce that the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge has been successfully reopened by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of schedule.

“What was initially a 90-day project has been remarkably completed in under two months, showcasing the exceptional dedication of all involved.â€

Osiyemi further said: “This success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Lagos State Government, including the pivotal roles played by the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Transportation.

“The Ministry of Works provided invaluable oversight and technical support throughout the project, ensuring high standards and quality in the rehabilitation work.

“The Ministry of Transportation coordinated the overall traffic management and logistics, facilitating a smooth and efficient execution.â€

He noted: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Lagosians for your patience and cooperation during this period. Your support and adaptability in navigating alternative routes were crucial to the project’s success.

“The reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge marks a significant milestone in enhancing our city’s infrastructure, promising improved traffic flow and connectivity between the Mainland and Island.â€

The Commissioner added: “We also commend the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their outstanding role in managing traffic during the project.

“Thank you, once again, for your unwavering support and commitment to the development of our city.â€
